Installation Instructions

Installation is as easy as downloading the appropriate update from the links below for your version of SONAR and running the installer. The on screen instructions will guide you through the rest.

If you experience any issues downloading or installing the update, we recommend temporarily disabling any anti-virus software or background services that might be running, such as Windows Update, as they may interfere with the installation process.

To install this update you must be a registered SONAR X2 owner. Please note: SONAR X2a is only officially supported on Windows 7 and Windows 8. Installation is not possible on unsupported operating systems, such as Windows 98 & XP. It remains possible to install and use SONAR X2a on Windows Vista though it is not recommended.

Additional Installation Steps Regarding VST Plug-ins:

After installing the X2a update we recommend resetting and re-scanning your VST plugins. SONAR X2a has a new mechanism for handling file systems without short file name support. While this is not mandatory, re-scanning will allow SONAR to properly detect and handle this scenario where applicable.

This can be done by launching SONAR and doing the following:

  1. Go to Edit > Preferences > File - VST Settings
  2. Click the [Reset All VST Plug-ins] button
  3. When prompted with the message "This will reset configuration settings for all your VST Plug-ins to defaults... Are you sure you want to do this" click [Yes]
  4. Click the [Scan VST Folders] button and wait for the scan to complete

Additional Installation Steps Regarding Online Documentation:

The online version of SONAR X2's documentation has been updated to include new topics pertaining to SONAR X2a and numerous minor fixes to other topics. We recommend clearing your browser's cache if any new topics are not displaying for you. You can also press F5 to refresh the current page you are on.
