Matrix view enhancements

The Matrix view has been updated with many user-requested enhancements.

Multi-select cells

You can select multiple cells and move, clear, or copy them simultaneously. Selected cells can also be dragged as a group into the Clips pane in the Track view.

The following table describes how to select cells in the Matrix view.

To do this	Do this
Select a single cell	Click on the cell.
Select multiple contiguous cells	Select the first cell, hold the SHIFT key down and click the last cell.
Select multiple, contiguous cells using the arrow keys	Hold down the CTRL and SHIFT keys while pressing the up, down, left, or right arrows.
Select multiple non-contiguous cells	Select a cell, hold the CTRL key while selecting additional cells

Selected cells are highlighted in yellow. If you drag the selected cell(s), the drop destination is highlighted in blue.

Simplified track routing

Matrix rows are associated with tracks. When you drag MIDI or audio content to empty Matrix rows, SONAR will create a unique track for each row. This results in a 1-to-1 relationship between tracks and Matrix rows.

If the ALT key is pressed when dragging content to an empty Matrix row, the new row will be routed to the first existing track that matches the content type (audio or MIDI). A new track will only be created if a corresponding track type doesn’t already exist.

Swap the positions of two cells

To swap the positions of two cells, hold down the ALT key and drag one cell to another cell.

The content type must be the same in both cells in order to swap the cells. The drag outline will indicate valid drop locations.

Copy cell content to Clips pane

To copy cell content to the Clips pane at the Now Time, press CTRL+ALT+SHIFT and click trigger area on each cell you want to copy.

Improved column trigger

Clicking a column trigger will now trigger all cells in the column instead of toggling the state of each cell.

Clear column

To clear all cells in a column, right-click column header and select Clear Column on the pop-up menu.

Drag partial clip selection to cells

In addition to entire clips, you can also drag partial clip selection’s from the Clips pane to the Matrix.

Row management

Right-click a row to access the following new commands:

Insert MIDI Row. Insert a new MIDI row. Right-click an existing MIDI row to assign the new row to the same track as the clicked row. Right-click an empty row or audio row to assign the new row to a new track.

Insert Audio Row. Insert a new audio row. Right-click an existing audio row to assign the new row to the same track as the clicked row. Right-click an empty row or MIDI row to assign the new row to a new track.

Delete Row. Remove the row and its cells.

Clear Row. Clear all cells in the row.

Duplicate Row. Copy the row and its cells to a new row.

New Matrix options

The Matrix Options dialog box contains the following new options:

Follow Transport Restores Pending Cells on Stop. When Follow Transport is enabled, you can queue up multiple cells to trigger when the transport starts. If Follow Transport Restores Pending Cells on Stop is enabled, all cells that were queued up to trigger will be pending again when the transport stops, even if the cells were manually stopped during playback.

Unlink Step Sequencer clips from Clips pane. When you drag a Step Sequencer clip to a Matrix cell, the clip data and cell data are linked. If you want the original clip and Matrix cell to be independent, clear the Unlink Step Sequencer clips from Clips pane check box.

To open the Matrix Options dialog box, click the Options button.
