New audio import and export formats

SONAR now supports the following additional new formats for import and export:

Ogg Vorbis Audio (.oga)

Ogg is a increasingly popular royalty-free format for compressed audio files. Detailed information about the Ogg format can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ogg.

RIFF 64 (.rf64)

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) developed the RF64 format as an extension of Broadcast Wave and an alternative to Sony Wave64 for large files sizes (>4GB).

Other formats

SONAR supports all the file formats that are available in the libsndfile library (www.mega-nerd.com/libsndfile).

Libsndfile provides a large list of file formats, some of which are relatively obscure and not useful to most SONAR users. As a result, SONAR intentionally excludes various formats from being listed in the Import Audio and Export Audio dialog boxes.

SONAR installs a file named libsndfile-exclude.txt, which lets you specify which audio file formats should be visible in SONAR. This file is located in C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\SONAR <Artist/Professional/Platinum>. You can choose to uncomment any items in the exclusion list and SONAR will list them the next time you open the Import Audio or Export Audio dialog box.

Tip: Instead of editing the libsndfile-exclude.txt file in C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\SONAR <Artist/Professional/Platinum>, it is recommended to copy that file to %APPDATA%\Cakewalk\SONAR <Artist/Professional/Platinum> and edit it there. SONAR will then use the per-user app data version of the file. This will ensure your changes are preserved the next time you update SONAR.

Note: SONAR has only been tested with the default formats that listed in the Import Audio or Export Audio dialog boxes. Some excluded formats may or may not work properly, especially on import.
