DSD (Direct Stream Digital) import and export

SONAR supports import and export of DSD (Direct Stream Digital) audio files (.dsf and .dff), which can be used to exchange audio with DSD converters such as the Tascam DA-3000 and TEAC UD-501.

DSD is a high resolution digital format, and is primarily used for Super Audio CDs (SACD) and as a master archive format. You can record and mix in PCM format in SONAR, then export to DSD format for SACD mastering.

The DSD signal is stored at a sampling rate of 2.8 MHz (64 times higher than the standard CD Audio sampling rate of 44.1 kHz), 5.6 MHz (128 times higher than audio CDs), or 11.2 MHz (256 times higher than audio CDs). SONAR supports DSD64 (2.8 MHz), DSD128 (5.6 MHz), and DSD256 (11.2 MHz) formats. When importing DSD audio, SONAR converts the audio data to the current project’s sample rate, at the highest possible bit depth.
