Universal Windows Platform MIDI support (Windows 10 or higher)

UWP MIDI driver mode

In addition to the MME MIDI API, SONAR supports the new Universal Windows Platform (UWP) MIDI API introduced in Windows 10. UWP MIDI provides a modern way to communicate with MIDI devices and can be extended to support newer MIDI protocols/interfaces.

UWP MIDI has several advantages over MME MIDI, including support for the Bluetooth LE MIDI protocol and multi-client access to MIDI ports.

 

Note: Windows 10 (or higher) is required for UWP MIDI support.

Bluetooth LE MIDI support in UWP MIDI

Windows 10 Anniversary Edition (or higher) includes support for Bluetooth LE MIDI when using the UWP MIDI driver mode. As long as the computer has a Bluetooth LE capable radio, no additional hardware is necessary to talk to Bluetooth MIDI peripherals such as keyboards, pedals and controllers.

To enable UWP MIDI support in SONAR (Windows 10 or higher)

1.	Close all open projects. SONAR will not allow you to change the MIDI driver mode while a project is open.

2.	Go to Edit > Preferences > MIDI - Playback and Recording.

3.	Click the Driver Mode drop-down list and select UWP.

If you are using Windows 10 Anniversary Edition (or higher), SONAR will automatically detect any Bluetooth LE MIDI compatible peripherals.
